Teaching in Alaska…from Georgia + Google Scholar

This semester (Fall, 2013) I am teaching two sections of an ONLINE introductory graduate educational research course to students in the furthest reaches of Alaska. Oh, and I’m in coastal Georgia. While the course doesn’t fall into the MOOC category, I currently, I have 44 students. Managing the load of communication is a challenge and there are several design approaches I have incorporated in an attempt to promote a positive learning environment that is conducive for the free flow and exchange of ideas, knowledge, and learning. After all, I took on this course because it is a challenge
Because this is a research course I am attempting to “model” appropriate behavior. I have structured small collaborative work teams, encouraged the construction of an online “community of learners”, and designed assignments which speak to my pragmatic philosophy of education.
